BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (CNN)- Authorities in Southern California rescued an Oregon family that was allegedly kidnapped by their estranged father.
The kidnapping took place in Salem, Oregon where the father nabbed his two daughters, their mother, and a one-year-old grandchild.
The suspect, Mario Gomez Nunez, was allegedly heading to Mexico with the group.
They stopped at a motel in Bakersfield, California for the night.
The family hadn’t eaten all day, and they convinced Nunez to allow them to go for food.
Nunez held on to the mother for collateral as the kids went to get food.
That is when the two daughters, aged 20 and 15, ran into deputies that were in the area.
Nunez faces kidnapping and false imprisonment charges.
