BATON ROUGE, La.—The Residence Hall Association welcomed all of the on campus residents by throwing their annual Block Party on Saturday.
An event notorious for its free food, RHA had over 450 residents stop by Tower Dr. to pick up pizza, sip on snowballs and win gift certificates to the beloved Cane’s.
Raven Gresenz and friend Eric Bergeron walked over to the party from East Laville because they remembered there was a lot of free food.
“Free food is always good,” said Bergeron, chemistry major.
Students could enjoy a free slice of pizza from Domino’s, two chicken fingers from Cane’s, a bowl of jambalaya from LSU Dining, a sandwich from Subway, a taste of a smoothie from Smoothie King or a snowball from New Orleans Chill. Everything was donated by those restaurants.
Liz Ainsworth, president of RHA, started planning for the event started back in June. She said she wanted to build of the past events.
“Last year, people said they wanted games,” said Ainsworth.
This year, RHA held a hula hoop contest with over 30 participants. The winner received a $25 gift basket from Cane’s. The RHA executive staff also announced LSU and RHA trivia for $10 gift cards to the first person who got the right.
Ainsworth said the three hour event was supposed to be an ice breaker for the new students. Jared Eppley, biology engineering freshman said it was a great way to meet people.
“I’m not really into big crowds but the people are really nice,” said Eppley. “Now I’m looking forward to starting here.”
