Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin announced on Monday that senior Jonathan Crompton will start at quarterback in the team’s season opener against Western Kentucky on Sept 5.
Crompton beat out junior Nick Stephens after a close competition between the two throughout fall practice.
“It was really close. It really came down to Jonathan was a little bit more accurate,” Kiffin told the Associated Press on Monday. “Both guys have made a number of plays during camp and protected the ball very well.”
Crompton will hope to improve on a season in which he made six starts and threw four touchdowns and five interceptions.
