BATON ROUGE, La.—As the fall semester begins, students have a completed addition to look forward to on campus.
The southeast wing of the Union is now open for students to enjoy.
This area is called the “Late Night Zone” and will be open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. It is located downstairs and includes a McDonald’s, Einstein Bros. Bagels, pool hall and lounge. An ATM corridor was built to replace the old ATM’s upstairs.
“So far from what I’m seeing, it looks great. Compared to what it used to look like,” said Alex Campbel, sociology junior.
Even the director of the student union Shirly Plakidas agrees it took a long time to have a finished product.
“It took about a million years,” Plakidas laughed.
Many students have been anticipating the completion of the new area in the Student Union and despite the big screen TV’s, pool hall and new restaurants.
Some students realize that it’ll be a great place to relax and study.
Plakidas emphasized the importance of students in the decision making process of the union.
“We do it on the basis of what people tell us they want to see,” said Plakidas. “We’re a service building and a service organization.”
Though students have different opinions on the new area there is something for everyone.
“I thought it would be like something only for students, paper and work but when I just got into the student union it was completely different,” said student Bahaa Zahra. “They have everything like, everything you want.”
“I like the new area, it’s a lot nicer than the old part up there,” said architecture freshman Rachel Birch.
Students are encouraged to submit suggestions for the name of the lounge in the Late Night Zone.
