BANGKOK (CNN)- American John Yettaw is now in Thailand, following his release from a Myanmar jail.

He arrived in Bangkok accompanied by U-S Senator Jim Webb, who had negotiated Yettaw’s release during talks in Myanmar with that country’s military rulers.

Webb told reporters in Bangkok that the 63-year-old Yettaw is currently under medical watch in Thailand due to an unspecified medical emergency.

Webb expressed hope the Yettaw release might help improve Washington’s relations with Myanmar.
