An investigation supported by University professors has significantly advanced the understanding of the universe’s early evolution.
The Laser Gravitational-Wave Observatory Scientific Collaboration and the Virgo Collaboration recently published a report in Nature magazine which developed new theories of universal gravitational waves.Research into gravitational waves may allow scientists to study the universe as it existed in the very first moments of creation.University professor Joseph Giaime heads the LIGO Livingston Observatory and University professor Gabriela Gonzalez is the leader of the detector characterization working group. About 15 other University faculty, post-doctoral and graduate students also participated in the study.
