Gov. Bobby Jindal dropped plans to request federal stimulus money to build a rail system between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, according to reports by The Times Picayune.
Chester Wilmot, civil engineering professor, said a rail between New Orleans and Baton Rouge would not have sufficient demand to be self sustaining.
“It’s quicker and more convenient to travel by car,” Wilmot said. “In order to justify rail systems anywhere in the world, you’ve got to have really large demand.”
