HAVANA, Cuba (CNN)—The island’s state-run newspaper and television station first showed the images Sunday, including the
first video of Castro broadcast in at least a year.
The media says they were taken over the weekend as the former Communist leader met with Venezuelan law students.
Castro has been out of the public eye since having abdominal surgery in 2006.
He ceded the presidency to his brother, Raul, last year, but has retained leadership of the Communist Party.
