LSU’s Office of Multicultural Affairs has a variety of programs planned for the fall semester.
Rainbow Rush, the Hispanic Cultural Showcase, Harambee and a Real Talk session are only a few.
Cerise Edmonds, the coordinator for Cross-Cultural Affairs of the Office of Multicultural Affairs said Rainbow Rush, a resource fair for the University’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Organization (LGBT) occurs September 10, during the Safe Space campaign.
The next event, the Hispanic Cultural Showcase, will take place September 22. The showcase is still in early planning stages.
“The planning now looks a little different than the first year but I don’t have a complete sketch,” Edmonds said.
Harambee, which takes place October 9, is normally a welcome back ceremony for African American students.
Because the event is scheduled later this year, Harambee will be a program with a volunteer fair, student performances and a key note speaker.
The speaker has not yet been decided on, Edmonds said.
The Real Talk session on October 29 also lacks a topic thus far. Last semester, the African American Cultural Center’s Real Talk session discussed what it’s like to be black at the University.
Edmonds said this year’s programs will have some changes, but the message will remain the same.
“I think the message we want to send is that we want to continue progressing and really continue to focus on diversity and bringing that to the forefront,” she said. “We want to continue to work with all of our students and different cultures to continue to educate the LSU community about the richness of cultures on campus.”
