BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A professor of emergency medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine is poised to become the new chancellor of the LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport.
LSU System President John Lombardi announced Tuesday that he is recommending Dr. Robert Barish for the post. The LSU Board of Supervisors is scheduled to consider Barish’s appointment on Thursday.
Barish is vice dean for clinical affairs and a professor at the Baltimore medical school. The former military flight surgeon was, in 1992, among a group of candidates to become a NASA astronaut.
Barish would succeed Dr. John McDonald, who retired in December after eight years as chancellor.
