LSU forward LaSondra Barrett was named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday.Barrett scored a career-high 27 points on 12-of-18 shooting in the Lady Tigers’ conference-opening 62-42 victory at Arkansas. That point total was the most among all SEC freshman this season.”I really see it as more of a team aspect than my award,” Barrett said. “It’s everybody’s award because they contribute to my success just as much as I do to theirs.”Barrett has scored in double figures in three straight games, continuing her hot streak in LSU’s 55-34 win against Alabama with 10 points and six rebounds.LSU women’s basketball coach Van Chancellor said Barrett definitely earned her recognition this week.”Any time one of your players gets an award, it’s a great honor for them,” Chancellor said. “And I thought [Barrett] scoring like she did in the first two conference games that she could be freshman of the week. She’s done a great job.”The Lady Tigers travel to face New Orleans on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
