PONCHATOULA, La. (AP) — Vast stretches of white fabric cover farmer William Fletcher’s 92,000 strawberry plants in the Ponchatoula area.
Fletcher is hoping the cover will protect his crop from multiple nights of freezing temperatures, which are expected to last through Friday morning.
Fletcher expects to lose some of his crop, especially with temperatures forecast to drop into the lower 20s by Friday. He won’t know how big a loss he faces until after the cold snap ends and he can pull back the fabric to inspect the plants.
