The University will welcome three new deans this summer in its goal to become a Flagship University, pending the Board of Supervisor’s approval next Thursday.Richard Koubek, professor and head of the Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University, will be recommended to the Board as dean of the College of Engineering.Laurence Kaptain, dean and professor at the Shenandoah Conservatory in Winchester, Va., will be recommended as dean of the College of Music & Dramatic Arts.And Christopher D’Elia, regional associate vice chancellor for academic affairs, research and graduate studies; director of the International Ocean Institute – USA; and professor of environmental science and policy and of marine sciences at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg, will be recommended as dean of the School of the Coast & Environment.”All three are absolutely critical to the advancement of the University and its pursuit of the Flagship Agenda,” Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Astrid Merget, said in an e-mail. “Although we are tightening the budget, we are working hard to ensure that budget cuts do not affect the quality of the University or its academic mission.”
