The LSU baseball team learned its first opponent of the Colllege World Series on Sunday.The Tigers will face Virginia in their opening game of this season’s trip to Omaha, Neb., following Virginia’s 5-1 victory against Ole Miss.LSU and Virginia will play next either next Saturday or Sunday — the announcement of which day and time will come at 8 p.m. Monday on ESPN.Other teams already in the College World Series field include Arkansas, North Carolina and Cal State Fullerton.Texas and TCU will play a third and deciding game Monday for a trip to Omaha. Southern Miss can punch its ticket with a win against Florida either tonight or Monday, as can Arizona State with a win either day against Clemson.Florida and Clemson can earn College World Series trips with back-to-back wins.While LSU coach Paul Mainieri said he welcomed the possibility of four teams — LSU, Arkansas, Florida and Ole Miss — playing in Omaha, he was wishing Virginia coach Brian O’Connor the best of luck.O’Connor was an assistant coach to Mainieri for nine seasons at Notre Dame.The LSU-Virginia winner will face the winner between Arkansas and Cal State Fullerton two days after their initial contests.
