LSU senior sprinter Trindon Holliday earned the NCAA South Central Region Men’s Track Athlete of the Year award on Monday.Holliday won both the Southeastern Conference and NCAA Mideast Regional crowns in the 100-meter dash this season and will compete in the 100-meter at the NCAA Outdoor Championships this week.The Zachary native also anchors the Tigers’ 4×100-meter relay team that boasts the fourth fastest time in the country this season at 38.86 seconds.Holliday’s SEC title in the 100-meter dash this season made him the first LSU Tiger to win two SEC individual titles in the event.His South Central Region Men’s Track Athlete of the Year award also marks the second Tiger in a row to earn the honors following former LSU athlete and Olympic silver medalist Richard Thompson last seaon.The 2009 NCAA Outdoor Championships begin Wednesday. Both the quartefinals and semifinals in the 100-meter dash are scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.If Holliday can qualify for Friday’s 100-meter final, he will have a chance to win his first NCAA title in the event.—-
