LSU has officially hired Billy Gonzales as its wide receivers coach, LSU head coach Les Miles announced Friday in a news release.
Reports came out late Thursday night saying Gonzales would take the job.
Gonzales, who spent the past five seasons as Florida’s receivers coach, replaces D.J. McCarthy, who resigned Wednesday.
“Billy comes to us with tremendous experience and great knowledge of the game,” Miles said in the release. “We’ve played against Billy and we know first-hand how he prepares his players to play. His receivers were always tough, fundamentally sound and they were always very well prepared.
Gonzales will also serve as passing game coordinator and will work with offensive coordinator Gary Crowton to develop LSU’s passing strategies.
