LSU has hired Frank Wilson to fill the vacancy on its football coaching staff, LSU coach Les Miles announced Monday in a news release.
Wilson will replace the departing Larry Porter, who was recently hired as head coach at Memphis. Wilson will take over as both running backs coach and recruiting coordinator.
Wilson, a New Orleans native, comes from Tennessee, where he coached wide receivers this past season. He was the running backs coach and recruiting coordinator at Southern Mississippi in 2008 and served as running backs coach and special teams assistant at Ole Miss from 2005-07.
“We are thrilled to add a veteran coach with a background in the SEC to our staff,” Miles said in the release. “Frank knows football and he’s a proven recruiter. He’s a former high school coach in our state with an extensive background in South Louisiana. He’s a great fit for our staff and for this program.”
Wilson was head coach at O. Perry Walker High School in New Orleans from 2000-03, garnering Class 4A Coach of the Year honors while leading O. Perry Walker to the state finals.
