Unknown to many, the University houses its very own Textile and Costume Museum, located in the Human Ecology Building.
Pamela Rabalais-Vinci is the mastermind behind this celebration of historical costumes and fashions. This Saturday, March 25, the museum is hosting the 11th annual Your Friends’ Closet Sale.
The sale, which begins at 9 a.m. for early birds and 10 a.m. for general admission, offers amazing vintage finds from various styles and decades. Consisting completely of donations, the sale serves as a huge fundraiser for the museum.
The selection covers women’s, men’s and children’s apparel, including accessories and shoes, as well as an array of vintage textile items, including fabrics and blankets. Almost all of the pieces are vintage, but some current styles will be up for grabs, including designer brands like Christian Dior and Oscar de la Renta.
The women’s section is sure to bring in a huge crowd. Dresses from the ’50s and ’60s can be found, along with fur coats, wedding gowns from every decade, alligator handbags in various colors and vintage University apparel. Jewelry, hats, stoles and shoes from designers like Prada and Salvatore Ferragamo can also be purchased.
The men’s section includes many suits, jackets and dress shirts. Some unique pieces can be purchased as well, including a never before worn pair of waders and a fly-fishing vest.
Prices range from $10 to $200. Tickets at the door are $10 for general admission, $20 for early bird and $5 for University students.
With the convenience of the sale right here on campus and reasonable prices, finding your next favorite vintage or designer piece is within reach. The sale will be held from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. and all major credit cards and cash will be accepted. Parking is available anywhere on campus.
