The LSU Women’s basketball team is back in the NCAA Tournament and on Wednesday the Tigers spoke about their game against Cal on Saturday.
“Its important that we take all the things we’ve learned in the toughest conference, the SEC, to show it and to showcase it” Senior Alexis Hyder said.
“It’s important to utilize all the things we’ve learned.”
Hyder, along with fellow seniors Rina Hill and Jasmine Rhodes are eager to make a lasting impact in their final appearance in the tournament.
Meanwhile freshman Ayana Mitchell is excited about her first chance to play in the NCAA tournament.
“It’s not enough just to make it to the tournament, we actually want to make some noise.”
The Tigers are approaching this game with the mindset that it’s a new season.
“We have nothing to lose, this is a new season, everyone has the same record, 0-0. We have to put our best foot forward.” Senior Jasmine Rhodes said about Saturday’s matchup against the Cal Bears
Head coach Nikki Fargas said the Tigers are excited to get back into the tourney after missing out on it last season. The players mentioned how last season Fargas made them watch the NCAA selection show and write down each team that made it into the tournament, knowing full well they weren’t going to make it in.
“You got to make this a priority, why are you at LSU?” Fargas said.
“There are so many great players that come before you and when you go into the practice facility and the PMAC and you see Final Four, Final Four, that’s the expectation here.”
Tip-off for the Tigers game against California is set for this Saturday, March 18th at 8 P.M.
