LSU’s Alpha Phi Omega fraternity hosted It’s a Woman’s World: Inspiration Mic Night in honor of Women’s History Month. Dancers, singers, and poets came together to honor strong women everywhere.
Throwing this event today helps us celebrate us in a much bigger way than it usually is,” Jourdan Riley, LSU senior and Service Vice President for Alpha Phi Omega, said.
The performers all paid tribute to women’s strength to overcome obstacles in society and to continue to grow.
One performer, Zachary Wright, explained a personal connection to his performance. He danced to a song by his role model, Lindsey Stirling, to honor her. He said her recovery after having her dreams crushed on America’s Got Talent inspires him every day.
“It’s like she just takes the fuel of being destroyed on America’s Got Talent to become a world famous superstar, and that’s just incredible,” Wright said.
KLSU’s Mackie McClain helped host the event. She said she’s proud to help acknowledge women for their accomplishments.
“We are the reason that so much exists; so, to be a part of something that pays homage to that…absolutely love it,” McClain said.
While this event was meant to empower women, it was also meant to inspire a community.
Riley said she hopes the Inspiration Mic Night inspired everyone, not just women, to be more active, to love more, and to be more open-minded.
Alpha Phi Omega is a co-ed service fraternity, with service as its primary mission. Keep up with more special events like this one on Twitter @APO_AE and Facebook at Alpha Phi Omega – Alpha Epsilon.
