Stevie Nicks’ 24 Karat Gold Tour is venturing to New Orleans this March, where she will perform songs from her newest album and some fan favorites.
The legendary Rock & Roll Hall of Famer kicked off her tour Oct. 25 in Phoenix and performed in more than 20 different cities, wrapping up her tour in Los Angeles on Dec. 18.
Nicks fans all over the country were disappointed when the tour concluded and their cities had been bypassed, leading the tour into 2017 with an additional 20 stops.
Nicks will be gracing New Orleans’ Smoothie King Center with her presence March 15, giving local fans an opportunity to see her perform live.
As such a well-known performer, her audience spans much further than those who grew up during her heyday in the ‘ 70s and ‘ 80s.
Some University students are Nicks fans, even though they were born in a much later era.
Alondra Villarreal, a 19-year-old mass communication major, said she learned to appreciate Nicks’ music because of how often her dad played it.
“My dad would always play her in the car while we were on road trips,” Villarreal said.
Nicks’ music became a fond memory of Villarreal’s childhood, which leads to nostalgia when she listens to Nicks.
Aside from Nicks’ solo music, she was also a member of Fleetwood Mac, a band during her prime as an individual artist, in the ‘70s and 80s.
She has been performing some of Fleetwood Mac’s most popular songs on her solo tour, including hits like “Rhiannon,” “Gold Dust Woman” and “Landslide.”
Villarreal said “Landslide” is one of her favorite Nicks’ songs, along with “Leather and Lace” and “Gypsy.”
“I like her songs and lyrics because they can be relatable to things I have gone through or may go through in my life,” Villarreal said.
Nicks, a Rock & Roll Hall of Famer and multi-platinum Grammy award winning artist, has been put on great shows so far for the 24 Karat Gold Tour. The ticket demand has been crazy and she has been getting amazing reviews.
After a December concert, The Chicago Tribune said “Nicks’ mystique and bewitching charm permeated the show.”
In a Billboard review, Nicks’ performance was lauded for its prowess and storytelling.
“Forty years and hundreds of covers later, there’s still nothing that properly prepares you for the sound of Nicks’ simultaneously gravelly and feathery wisp intoning that first ‘Took my love, and I took it down,’” Billboard said.
For those ready to see a great show, Nicks will be in New Orleans in less than a month.
“It’s been thrilling to get on stage each night and sing some of my early gems from early in my career along with getting the chance to sing material from my last two albums,” Nicks said in a statement on her website.
