The LSU men’s tennis team defeated No. 18 Kentucky in doubles, but ultimately lost to the Wildcats, 5-2, at the LSU Tennis Complex on March 11th.
The doubles point was secured by the Jordan Daigle/Justin Butsch pair handling No. 70 Beck Pennington/Enzo Wallert, 6-3, and the Gabor Csonka/Julian Saborio duo topping Ryotaro Matsumura/Trey Yates, 7-5.
The Tigers fell to 0-3 in conference and 2-9 on the season. UK improved to 11-5, 2-1 in the SEC.
The doubles competition was played in the outdoor portion of the stadium, but heavy rain interrupted singles and play resumed indoors.
No. 47, senior Jordan Daigle provided LSU with its lone singles win as he upset No. 28 William Bushamuka by scores of 6-1, 1-6, 6-2.
No. 43, senior Justin Butsch played No. 25 Ryotaro Matsumura into three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.
Sophomore, Nikola Samardzic also extended his match to three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 2-6.
The Tigers hope to get their first conference win with their triple-header against Alcorn State and Vanderbilt on March 12th, 3 pm and 5 pm, respectively.
