BUKU Music + Arts Project is this weekend, and whether you’re going for a laidback style or plan to go all out with glitter and heels, The Daily Reveille has compiled a helpful guide for picking the perfect look that is unique to your style. Here are 10 tips to help plan your festival outfits.
High-waisted shorts: Not only are shorts easy to find and usually inexpensive, they’re also comfortable, which is key when wearing something all day — rain or shine. Pick out a pair of light-wash ripped jean shorts or a pair with an Aztec pattern from your favorite store.
Crop-top: When picking a crop-top for a festival, you have to be careful. It’s going to be worn all day, so strapless is not the best option. A simple high neck crop top will stay on throughout the day and expose a small part of the midriff for the perfect look.
Closed-toe shoes: The trek you’ll make at a festival is no joke. You’ll be walking from the stage to the bathroom to the food stands back to the stage all weekend long. Sandals break easily and expose your toes to the elements.
Instead, keep it safe with a stylish pair of booties, high top Converse or Adidas slip ons. But steer clear of white or any shoes you wouldn’t want getting dirty.
Backpack or Fanny Pack: You need a place to put all of your belongings, right? Fanny packs are convenient and adorable festival accessories. They are small enough that they aren’t inconvenient, but have enough room for a few necessary items. If you need more room, a small patterned backpack works too. Just make sure it’s a bag that’s easy to carry.
Jacket: It may be hot during the day in Louisiana, but with the weather so inconsistent this year, a jacket is a necessity. During the day it can stay in your bag or tied around your waist. Either way, it needs a hood in case of rain. A rain jacket or a simple zip up hoodie are both good options.
Choker: As everyone knows, chokers are definitely in style right now. Pick one that matches your style — bold or dainty, leather or lace — and coordinate it with your outfit. A wrap around choker matches well with a simple top because it hangs down and gives detail. A simple black choker or stone choker could work if your shirt is the main focus of your outfit.
Face Paint: Like most of these ideas, this depends on the look you’re going for. If you’re dressed up in costume, maybe as a cat, then draw on an intense cat-eye, complete with a nose and whiskers.
If you want a simple look, paint a few flowers around your eyes or some geometric patterns. It’s not often we can get away with wearing face paint, so get creative and have fun painting an expressive look.
Glitter: Who doesn’t love glitter? Buy a few bottles of your favorite colors of glitter and put it everywhere; on your face, in your hair, all over your body. Have fun with it. Like face paint, glitter isn’t something you can wear on the regular, so go crazy with it all weekend.
Sunglasses: These are a definite must have. It may be overcast during some parts of the day, but chances are it’s going to be very sunny. You will regret it all weekend if you forget a pair and have to squint all weekend.
Plus, sunglasses add to your style. Whether you like circular frames or typical aviators, match them to your outfit and enjoy being able to actually see the performers.
