In their second game in Saturday’s doubleheader, the #13 LSU Softball team fell to #10 Minnesota, 3-0.
The game was a pitcher’s duel through three innings, until Minnesota broke the deadlock in the top of the fourth, scoring 2 runs. Minnesota closed out the scoring in the top of the sixth inning scoring one run on a wild pitch.
Minnesota senior RHP Sara Groenewegen held a perfect game until late in the 6th inning. She went on to secure a 3-0 victory for the Golden Gophers, winning her ninth game this season. Groenewegen pitched a complete game, giving up only three hits, and striking out nine batters strikeouts in the shut-out performance against the Tigers.
At the plate, the Golden Gophers, freshman second baseman MaKenna Partain performed well going 2-4 with an RBI. Minnesota improves on their undefeated record with this victory to 17-0 on the season.
The Tigers played well on defense for most of the game, but could not get going at the plate only getting three hits. Only four batters reached base during the game.
Junior RHP Carley Hoover received her first loss of the season on the mound. Hoover pitched a complete game, struck out nine batters, and gave up two earned runs in the loss.
The Tigers move to 16-4 on the season. The Tigers have another doubleheader on Sunday versus Florida Atlentic and Troy before they start the tough SEC schedule, which begins with #2 Auburn on the road at Jane B. Moore Field on March 10-12.
