A two-RBI single from senior outfielder Bailey Landry would be all that the No. 12 LSU softball team needed to clinch the series against Georgia.
In the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday, the Tigers defeated the Bulldogs 2-0.
Junior pitcher Allie Walljasper started in the circle and faced the minimum through three innings keeping the Bulldogs scoreless with no hits.
Walljasper had four strikes on 102 pitches.
The Tigers offense came together in the bottom of the third after coming out to a slow start.
Sophomore Shemiah Sanchez became the first base runner of the game for LSU after drawing a walk and freshman Aliyah Andrews followed up with a single putting two runners on base as the lineup turned over.
Junior outfielder Emily Griggs then singled to center field giving the Tigers an opportunity to put runs on the board.
Senior outfielder Bailey Landry took advantage of the opportunity and hit a two-RBI single lifting the Tigers over the Bulldogs.
Landry extended her hitting streak to 20 games.
The Bulldogs got their first hit of the game in the fourth from center fielder Cortni Emanuel.
Walljasper walked two batters to load the bases with two outs left, but UGA’s Mahlena O’Neal popped up to first base keeping the Bulldogs scoreless.
The Bulldogs struck again in the top of the sixth hoping to get on the board, but senior catcher Sahvanna Jaquish caught UGA’s Cortni Emanuel stealing second.
In the Bulldogs final chance to score, Walljasper retired the final three, only allowing two hits in the contest.
Andrews was the only Tiger with multiple hits going 2-for-2 at the plate. She has 13 hits in the last 10 games and has at least one hit in the last seven games.
