LSU will be without two starters for spring practice.
Junior guard Will Clapp and senior fullback J.D. Moore will sit out spring practice, because of injuries LSU coach Ed Orgeron said on Tuesday.
Clapp and Moore join junior defensive end Arden Key as non-participants in spring drills.
Moore, who played in every game last season, played through a wrist injury throughout the latter half of LSU’s 2016-17 season. The 6-foot-4, 241-pound fullback is a three-year starter at the position.
Clapp played through most of last football season with a shoulder injury and is recovering from surgery. Orgeron mentioned Clapp would have likely practiced at center, but did not offer any details on who could replace Clapp during spring.
On Feb. 15, LSU announced that Key will take a leave of absence from the football last month. Key is still enrolled in classes and Orgeron expects Key to return to the team.
With Key out, Orgeron said he expects sophomore defensive ends Sci Martin, Andre Anthony and Rashaan Thornton to step up in his place.
“I’m excited about our guys at the outside linebacker position,” Orgeron said. “Andre Anthony has had an excellent offseason. Ray Thornton’s had an excellent offseason. Sci Martin is coming along. We’ve got some guys coming.”
