This year has been going pretty well so far — for the video game world, at least. Early 2017 releases Resident Evil 7, Nioh, For Honor and Horizon Zero Dawn all lived up to the hype surrounding them.
March looks to continue this success in what could be the biggest month of the year for video games, headlined by the console release of the Nintendo Switch.
Nintendo Switch – March 3
Nintendo’s latest console-handheld hybrid debuted March 3. The much hyped console was released alongside nine launch titles, including Skylanders Imaginators , Shovel Knight, 1-2-Switch and, of course, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands – March 7 (PC, PS4, Xbox One)
Ghost Recon Wildlands is an open world tactical shooter and the tenth installment in Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon series. The first mainline game of the series in five years boasts a four player co-op in the game’s 21 regions. Developer Ubisoft Paris said this is the largest open world game the company has ever made.
Nier: Automata – March 7 (PS4); March 17 (PC)
Nier: Automata is a sequel to Nier, a spinoff of the Drakengard series, that has been seven years in the making. Set in a war-torn, post-apocalyptic world, you play as a female combat android fighting gigantic machines in the proxy war. Over the years, Nier has accumulated a dedicated fanbase, and this follow-up developed by superstar developers PlatinumGames, it’s expected to be a hit.
Mass Effect: Andromeda – March 21 (PC, PS4, Xbox One)
Mass Effect: Andromeda is the fourth entry into developer BioWare’s action-RPG space opera. The game takes place directly between the action of second and third games of the original trilogy and pits you as a new protagonist, either Scott or Sara Ryder, with a brand new story. Fans are excited to see what direction BioWare will take after they overhauled their RPG formula with their 2015 release of Dragon Age: Inquisition.
MLB The Show 17 – March 28 (PS4)
MLB The Show 17 continues the enormous success of Sony San Diego’s baseball franchise. With improved visuals and better AI, the game will most likely be a hit, as the series has been one of the most dependable series in history — and a must have for baseball fans.
