LSU’s Tri Delta sorority hosted its second annual Delta Diner event to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Wednesday night.
“The event is essentially a socializing hour where you can eat pancakes while raising money for a great cause,” LSU’s Tri Delta Chapter President Eleanor Gilbert said.
Students paid $5 to attend the event where they enjoyed unlimited stacks of pancakes. All proceeds are donated to St. Jude.
Tri Delta members host four fundraising events each school year to help St. Jude. Last year, they donated over $200,000.
Tri Delta partnered with St. Jude over 15 years ago and has been helping raise money ever since. Being a part of these fundraisers means more than just donating money, Gilbert said.
“We’ve seen patients come in and speak to us at chapter meetings and tell us about the difference Tri Delta has made in their lives,” Gilbert said.
The donations to St. Jude not only benefit the patients; they also benefit the patients’ families. The patients’ family members are always telling Tri Delta members how thankful they are for their help, Gilbert explained.
The Delta Diner event is a fun time for students, but the cause is most important.
“It’s humbling. We’re so blessed to have such a wonderful philanthropy that we get to raise money for,” Gilbert said.
