On Sunday the No. 10 LSU softball team earned the win over the Mississippi State Bulldogs by a final score of 4-1. It was the Tigers ninth straight win and second straight series sweep of an SEC opponent.
The Tigers were led by junior starting pitcher Allie Walljasper who took a no-hitter into the sixth inning. Walljasper was able to get her 11th win of the season as she lowered her ERA to 0.97.
“I was just pitching to my defense,” Walljasper said about her team helping her out in the field.
“My defense has had my back this entire weekend. They have been doing a great job behind me.”
Head Coach Beth Torina was satisfied with her team’s performance to get the series sweep over the weekend.
“I thought we did our job. I think everyone in the SEC is important. To get three wins against a really quality Mississippi State team is a good weekend.”
Freshman Amanda Doyle, who got the start at first base today, says the team is confident going into next weekend.
“We need to keep working and keep preparing for next weekend,” Doyle said.
“We cannot let down. We have to keep getting better and working every day.”
The Tigers are now 31-7 overall and 7-2 in SEC play. LSU will travel to Alabama on Friday to face the Crimson Tide in a three game series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 P.M.
