LSU’s offense brought them to a 6-0 win against the University of South Alabama on Tuesday night.
After struggling on offense for a couple of weeks, LSU (35-14, 9-9 Southeastern Conference) came out swinging tonight.
“We were all relaxed,” freshman first baseman Amanda Doyle said. “Just dancing in the dugout, having a good time and it carried over into our at bats, having hard hits, quality at bats and things like that.”
Both teams remained scoreless until the Tigers took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.
After back-to-back walks from senior catcher Sahvanna Jaquish and senior right fielder Bailey Landry, Doyle hit her fourth homerun of the season to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead.
“It felt really good,” Doyle said. “I just went up relaxed, knowing that all the hard work that I’ve been putting in was sooner or later show in my outcome. So I was just relaxed and looking for the right pitch.”
LSU struck again in the bottom of the sixth inning with another home run from junior pitcher Allie Walljasper.
Jaquish then hit an RBI-single down the third base line to give the Tigers a 6-0 lead going into the seventh inning.
Even with a slight knee injury, junior pitcher Carley Hoover provided stability for the LSU defense.
Hoover (10-6) allowed five hits and one walk through all seven innings pitched.
“I don’t think she showed any signs of that [injury] tonight,” LSU coach Beth Torina said. “She did a great job of commanding the zone and being in control the entire game.”
Coming up on the back end of the season, the Tigers are focusing on staying consistent through these last few games.
“It’s good for us and it’s especially good for a team with a pitching staff like that,” Torina said. “They have great numbers and they’re really talented. I think it’s good for our team but it’s really good to see us do that against a quality pitcher.”
LSU will play Missouri on Friday at 6 p.m. in the last home series of the season.
