The Tigers have won the Southeastern Conference Tournament for the 12th time in program history.
LSU was led by a phenomenal pitching performance from freshman Eric Walker. Walker pitched 7 ⅔ innings, and only allowed one run on five hits. The freshman tied his career high in strikeouts with eight.
At the plate, LSU was led by sophomore left fielder Antoine Duplantis, who was 2-4 with a double and crossed home plate twice on the day. Duplantis’ effort on his second run scored was one of the highlights on the day for the Tigers. After a fly out by junior first baseman Nick Coomes, Duplantis darted to the plate, and slid under the catcher’s tag for fourth run of the day for LSU.
The win did not come without drama for LSU, however. In the ninth inning, senior closer Hunter Newman found himself with the bases loaded with two outs. Newman was able to get Luke Bonfield to ground out to Kramer Robertson, who tossed it to Josh Smith at third base for the force out.
LSU will now wait until Monday night to discover its official postseason fate. The Tigers are projected to be a national seed, and are set to host a regional in Alex Box Stadium.
