The former five-star recruit announced his decision on twitter to transfer from LSU on Wednesday.
Smith, a highly coveted cornerback out of Florida, was apart of LSU’s 2016 recruiting class which was ranked No. 3 overall by 247sports.com. He enrolled at LSU in January 2016, and saw limited playing time in his freshman year, appearing in 10 games and totaling four tackles with two passes broken up.
With the loss of four starters in LSU’s secondary, Smith was expected to see an increased role in 2017. During the spring, Smith competed with redshirt freshman Andraez “Greedy” Williams for a starting spot in the Tigers nickel packages.
In LSU’s spring game, Smith was playing with the second team defense and Williams was with the first team.
