LSU left-handed pitcher Jared Poche’ was selected by the San Diego Padres in the 14th round of the MLB Draft, but he decided to come back to school for his senior year.
“Just being from a small town in Louisiana, any kid wants to play baseball at LSU,” Poche’ said. “I was fortunate enough to get that opportunity three years ago. I was fortunate enough again to get drafted last year.”
“After a lot of thought, all of the guys coming back, I was thinking we could have a real good year, this year. I’m excited to be back. I’m happy with the decision I made. I think it’s going to turn out to be one of the best decisions that I ever made in my life,” Poche’ said.
Poche’ has the opportunity to make LSU baseball history in his last season.
“Poche’s the only pitcher in the history of LSU baseball to win nine games in each of his first three years,” said LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri said. “This guy has 27 career wins. If he wins 11 this year, he’ll tie for the most wins in the history of LSU baseball. What a remarkable accomplishment that would be.”
Poche’ said if he wins those 11 games that means the Tigers are having a great year.
Poche said when he leaves he will always remember how well the LSU staff and fans treated him. He couldn’t ask for better.
“I wouldn’t trade it for anything,” Poche’ said.
Poche’ said LSU fans are the best in all of college baseball, and this season he will cherish every moment he enters Alex Box Stadium.
LSU baseball starts their season Feb. 17 against Air Force at Alex Box Stadium.
