On Saturday, Jared Poche’ took to the mound for his first start of the season. He did something no Tiger has done since 1979.
He threw a no-hitter.
“It’s surreal, I still can’t believe it happened,” Poche’ said.
This was Poche’s last opening day as a Tiger and it couldn’t have gone much better.
“I guess I went out with a bang,” Poche’ said.
“It was a special day,” LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri said. “I just asked him out there on the mound when I hugged him I said well was it worth coming back to experience that today and he said absolutely.”
Poche’ wasn’t alone out there. Kramer Robertson came up with some great plays throughout the game to keep Poche’s no-hitter alive.
“I think the top of the seventh inning was as nervous as I’ve ever been as a baseball player,” Robertson said. “I wanted him to get it so bad.”
Poche’s no hitter also marked LSU’s 2500th win in program history.
