LSU basketball is on the verge of tying a record.
After falling 90-72 to the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday, LSU (9-17, 1-13 Southeastern Conference) is now one loss shy of tying the program’s record losing streak of 14 games that was set in both 1965-66 and 1966-67.
The Tigers have not won a game since Jan. 4 and sit at the bottom of the SEC standings.
Alabama’s 90 points are the most in a regulation SEC game since 2009. and one point shy of tying its season-high point total.
LSU allowed Alabama to shoot 32-of-60 from the field, 10-of-25 from three, as five of Alabama’s players score in double figures. Alabama’s Bola Olaniyan posted a season-high 15 points and pulled down 15 rebounds.
The Tigers committed 15 turnovers, and Alabama was able to capitalize, scoring 21 points off of those mistakes.
Sophomore guard Antonio Blakeney finished with 28 points (9-of-14) after sitting 13 minutes of the first half for the Tigers.
Freshman forward Wayde Sims added 10 points and four rebounds off of the bench.
LSU returns home to face Auburn on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the PMAC. LSU lost 78-74 to Auburn on the road on Jan. 18th.
