The Red Stick is rich in culture, politics and history. With Mardi Gras and the spring season well underway, Baton Rouge is home to many local events. Step out of your comfort zone and explore the city by heading to these events, ranging from exercise to art shows.
Live in the Lounge!: This event is held at Tallulah Crafted Food & Wine Bar every Wednesday from 7-10 p.m. Take a seat, enjoy a nice dinner or drink, while relishing a variety of live performances. This restaurant is located at 7000 Bluebonnet Blvd.
Yoga on Tap: Partnered with LuLu Lemon, Yoga on Tap’s goal is to provide free yoga classes to anyone in need of a stress-free evening. The classes are held in Tin Roof Brewing Company, 1624 Wyoming Street, from 6-7 p.m. Yoga on Tap will be held weekly until July 12. Admission is free and immediately after the class, the bar offers happy hour specials. A yoga class is the perfect way to relax in the middle of a hectic week.
Mid City Art Thaw: To celebrate art and the upcoming spring season, businesses are participating in a mini art show that will feature local artists. This event will even host live music performances. Mid City Art Thaw is free and will be serving refreshments. The event will be held Feb. 16 at 680 Jefferson Ave.
Oneofakind Baton Rouge Fashion Week for Kids by Kids: OBRFW staff, designers, and models will hold a fashion show Feb. 16 from 7-9 p.m. This event costs $30, but it’s well worth it to support a show produced solely by children. Dress up in your favorite suit or dress and enjoy a great night at the Belle of Baton Rouge Casino.
Henry Turner Jr.’s Listening Room: This is an original music showcase, featuring local musicians and touring acts. The event, hosted by Henry Turner Jr. himself, and accompanied by DJ Chat, returns to the days of Chitlin Circuit. This event costs $10 for adults and includes a soul food dish. With all the performances taking place, this event is a steal. The showcase will be held each Thursday until March 30, at 2733 North Street.
Krewe of Artemis: Celebrate the Mardi Gras season with this ladies only krewe which rolls through downtown Baton Rouge. The parade will head down River Road at 7 p.m. on Feb. 17.
Krewe of Mystique: Celebrating 38 years of parading in Baton Rouge, this krewe displays a family-oriented, kid-friendly parade that is fun for all ages. This parade will roll beginning at 2 p.m. on Feb. 18 through River Road and Government Street.
