LAROSE, La. — Purple. Gold. Football. Gumbo. And a live band. Mix it all together and you have the perfect combination to honor LSU football head coach Ed Orgeron.
Around 1,000 Tiger fans gathered at the Larose Civic Center on Friday night to celebrate “Coach O Day.”
Orgeron’s South Lafourche jersey (No. 77) was retired. The 1977 South Lafourche football team commemorated the 40th anniversary of the team winning the state championship.
Former Saints quarterback Bobby Hebert was in attendance and was also Orgeron’s teammate on the championship team.
Hebert recalled memories from the winning season, talking about nearly every player on the team.
Other notable guests:
Billy Cannon, LSU Heisman winner
MikeDetillier, NFL Analyst
Edwin Edwards, former Louisiana governor
Joe Alleva, LSU Athletics Director
Guests were served food requested by Coach O, including gumbo, white beans and rice, fried shrimp, and bread pudding.
Sponsor tables were $1,000 a piece, while individual tickets were $50. All proceeds will go to a local non-profit organization.
