Aaron Moffitt no longer has to wait.
The three-star defensive end signed and faxed his national letter of intent to LSU’s compliance office and officially signed with LSU.
Aaron, the son of LSU’s strength and conditioning coach Tommy Moffitt, said it was a “dream come true” to sign with the Tigers.
“I’ve been waiting for this day a long time,” Aaron said. “It’s finally here.”
Aaron signed with the Tigers after holding offers from Texas Christian University, South Carolina, Vanderbilt and others.
Before signing with LSU, Aaron visited TCU in December, but said it didn’t feel right.
“I just wanted to go see how things were different,” he said. “I put on a TCU jersey and it just didn’t feel the same. It’s something about LSU, it’s special. It’s always been close to my heart.”
Tommy was pleased that his son decided to sign with LSU.
“I’m very proud,” Tommy said. “Very proud.
Aaron stressed he is ready to get to work at LSU and focus on his future goals, which include breaking weight lifting records.
In high school, the 6-foot-2, 253-pound defensive lineman squatted 515 pounds and power cleaned 330 pounds.
“I’m trying to break records for both of them,” Aaron said. “Three-hundred-eighty [pounds] for clean, and squats are going to be hard, but I’m going to try to add at least 50 pounds more.”
Former offensive coordinator Cam Cameron mainly recruited and invited Aaron to “Boys from the Boot,” an LSU football campaign for junior football players.
“Recruiting is all over and it’s really time to work and focus on my goals,” Aaron said. “Just building a family with my team and that’s all I can really do.”
Aaron mentioned LSU senior defensive end Christian LaCouture and quarterback Danny Etling as players he looks up to.
Etling and several others started calling Aaron “Bird dog” when he walked into the football facility and the name has stuck since then.
“I walked into the facility one day and people started yelling my name,” Aaron said. “I was looking around like ‘Who are they talking to’ and Danny said your nickname is ‘Bird dog’ now.”
Following Aaron to LSU is one of his closest friends from Catholic High School, three-star running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire.
Edwards-Helaire is LSU’s lone running back signee and is looking to add “edge” to the program.
“Whatever I can do on the practice field to help the starting defense,” Edwards-Helaire said. “Or the starting kick-off team to give everybody that edge then I feel like that will be my first impression to everybody.”
Edwards-Helaire,who rushed for over 3,000 yards while at Catholic High, said his rating didn’t reflect his skill set.
Edwards-Helaire said one of the reasons why is because of his 5-foot-7, 209-pound frame.
“I feel like I was rated a three-star because of my height,” Edwards-Helaire said. “My skill set is what I have. I was dynamic and explosive in every part of the game that I was in.”
Edwards-Helaire and Aaron will be rooming together at LSU and are looking forward to cooking competitions, training and daily jokes.
“We both like to cook,” Edwards-Helaire said. “I feel like we’re going to have a lot of competitions and jokes. I think Aaron is the real jokester out of the two of us. He’ll say the funniest things.”
