Imagine the campus without Middleton Library. With this year’s master plan, that is a likely possibility.
Students have been enduring inadequate library conditions for years. Now, Middleton is more of a dilemma than a helpful study place.
“Middleton is kind of rundown. It’s just not well lit or inviting for people to study here,” student Isa Rubiano says.
University administrators are finalizing a plan that would demolish Middleton once a new library is built.
“I think that we have now a really strong consensus across the university that a new library is necessary, that this Middleton Library is completely inadequate,” LSU dean of libraries Stanley Wilder says.
An architectural firm from South Carolina just finished estimating how many rooms need to be in the new library.
That estimate will soon give administrators a price tag for the new addition to campus.
The plan also includes the demolition of Lockett Hall and changes to parking on campus.
The new library will not be here anytime soon, however. Wilder predicts that it will be close to eight years before a new library is ready for use.
