LSU swimming and diving team manager Kayne Finley, who had battled diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) for over a year, passed away on Nov. 24, per a post on the ‘Cannonballs for Kayne’ Facebook page. 

The post wrote, “Kayne peacefully passed from his earthly self and ascended into heaven around 8:20 am, surrounded by his devoted father, mother, brother and dog, Curtis, Kirsten, Keagan and Moose.”
Finley was diagnosed with DIPG, a rare form of pediatric brain cancer that has less than a one percent survival rate, on November 23, 2016 while he was a senior in high school.
He was able to attend LSU, accomplishing his dream of going to college, before returning to his home state of Florida as the DIPG progressed.
After Finley was diagnosed, his family started the #CannonballsforKayne organization to raise awareness about DIPG along with funding research and supporting families.
#CannonballsforKayne asks people to do cannonballs into a pool and post on social media to raise awareness on DIPG.
Finley was honored in Tiger Stadium prior to LSU’s game against Syracuse on Sept. 23 and was awarded a letterman’s jacket by the LSU swimming and diving team on Sept. 29.
Finley was again honored in Tiger Stadium before kickoff against Texas A&M Saturday night with a moment of silence. 
#CannonballsforKayne is currently raising donations to provide gifts to children at the UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida in memory of Kayne at their website, https://www.cannonballsforkayne.org/thanksgiving.
