LSU volleyball has been granted a postseason berth for the first time since 2014. The Tigers will face San Diego in the first round.
LSU (20-9, 11-7 Southeastern Conference) will be in the NCAA tournament for the 15th time in program history, bringing elation the team and coach Fran Flory.
“This was a step that we felt like we were capable of making this year,” Flory said in a press release. “We are thrilled to be back in. We certainly didn’t do it the easy way. We are appreciative of the fact that the committee felt like our season was warranted an opportunity to compete for the national championship and to be in the tournament.”
With a chance to compete for the national title, the Tigers are in a situation they have not seen for a few years. The current seniors are the only Tigers who have played in the postseason before.
“We are excited,” Flory said. “ This is a new start and new step for this group particularly. I think this is a challenge we will accept pretty quickly and be ready for.”
The Tigers will play their first round match in Southern California. LSU’s match against San Diego will be played at 7 p.m. CT. on Dec. 1
