It was a tough night all around for LSU basketball as they lost in the semifinal round of the Maui Invitational to No. 13 Notre Dame 92-53.
LSU lost junior guard Brandon Sampson to an ankle injury sustained in the first 30 seconds of the game. Sampson was taken to a nearby hospital for X-Rays to get a clear injury report.
He averaged 13.3 points per game in the first three games of the season, an increase on last season’s average of 11.6 points per game.
Without Sampson, LSU struggled to stop the Irish in any facet and score offensively. Notre Dame shot 52 percent from the field and drilled 15 threes on 47 percent shooting, while LSU was 37 percent from the field and 26 percent from deep.
As well as freshman guard Tremont Waters played against Michigan, he could not keep up with Irish senior point guard Matt Farrell. Farrell finished with 17 points and seven assists while Waters scored eight points with three assists and three turnovers.
The Tigers will be back in action tomorrow night against Marquette with tip-off at 7 p.m. on ESPN2.
