University student Evan Paul Hatrel was arrested for criminal mischief Thursday after admitting to lying to detectives about an armed robbery, according to LSU Media Relations Director Ernie Ballard.
The LSU Emergency Text Messaging System sent out a broadcast email shortly after midnight Sunday morning saying “Reported Armed Robbery at Cypress Dr and W. Chimes St. Use caution in the area.“
According to Ballard, Hatrel said two unknown males hit him on the back of the head and stole his book bag. Hatrel was issued a misdemeanor summons for criminal mischief and released.
