It is that time of the year again students are scheduling classes for the following semester. Counselors at the University Center for Freshman Year, UCFY, are available for all students who have not been accepted into their senior colleges yet.
Some students coming to LSU may not know what to major in, and lucky there is a place they can come to. Not only does UCFY help students schedule classes, they are available for students throughout the year if they have any questions or concerns declaring or changing their major.
Students are also encouraged to stop by The Olinde Career Center, located in the basement of the Student Union Building, if they want to gather more information about different majors they may be interested. Here they can learn about potential majors and what their future may look like if that major is selected.
When scheduling classes, it is important for students to check their status in order to ensure no holds are in place that may purge their ability to schedule. Holds may be put in place if mid term grades were not high enough or if senior colleges need to meet with students for various reasons.
A Comprehensive Academic Tracking System hold or CATS hold, may also be put in place if a student has completed a class from a previous school or semester, and the transfer of credit has yet been put into the system.
Ms. Yancy and the other counselors at UCFY stress that taking a W or Withdrawing from a class, is better than potentially ending with a bad grade and failing a class. If the final grade in a class might affect your GPA negatively, dropping the class before the drop date may be appropriate.
