LSU students are wondering just how safe they actually are on campus.
Weeks after shootings at Grambling State University and most recently the University of Utah, LSU students are worried about campus safety in the event of an active shooter.
A study by the Citizens Crime Commission shows that incidents of school shootings have increased by 153% since 2011. The LSU Police Department has made major provisions to improve campus safety such as such as the LSU Shield app and improving the emergency text message service in recent years.
However students, like Amanda Nickintosh, say more can and should be done, “I feel like there should definitely be more put on place on campus to ensure that the students are safe all the time. I feel like police presence should be more visible, walking around campus I don’t usually see police.”
Students are encouraged to download the LSU Shield app and to report any suspicious sightings on campus.
