LSU (8-5-2) Soccer suffered their third straight loss to #8 Central Florida (10-1-1) at home this Sunday by a score of 4-0.
The Tigers’ offense started off strong getting multiple shot attempts in the first ten minutes but was unable to gather any success outside of that. Careless passes and poor first touches plagued the Tigers for most of the afternoon as UCF settled in.
Central Florida scored once near the end of the first half before quickly stringing together two goals within 35 seconds of each other to start the second half.
“Well, I thought the first 20 minutes were really good.” Coach Brian Lee said, “We had a couple of early chances, and we didn’t stick them away. Then Central Florida came into the game and, they’re a really good team.”
LSU was unable to pull the offense back together after its initial burst, only having one shot attempt after 15 minutes and four total while UCF took 22 total shots.
UCF has been used to winning with their offense as they came into the game with the nation’s sixth best scoring offense with an average of 2.82 goals per game.
LSU sits just outside of qualifying for the Southeastern Conference Tournament in Orange Beach, Florida, with only three games left. The Tigers have to figure out how to pick up some conference wins if they want a chance at the conference title.
LSU takes on Texas A&M (11-2-1, 6-1-0 SEC) this Thursday on senior night for the last home game of the season.
“We’ve got to figure out a way to get some wins in the SEC to get a shot at Orange Beach and the NCAA tournament.” Lee said, “Both of those things are very well in reach, it’s an odd world with NCAA soccer where we’re closer to the NCAA tournament than we are Orange Beach right now but three points changes a lot of that. A&M is a great team, they’ve got some of the best attacking players in the country and we’ll have to be on our best come Thursday night.”
