The LSU Tigers remain undefeated four to zero at home this season, with fans cheering loud they fought back to win against SEC rival Arkansas on Sunday.
LSU took the first set, 25 to 23 but Arkansas came back to win sets two and three.
The Tigers defense struggled in sets two and three, a fourth of the Razorbacks points were unearned.
Head Coach Fran Flory says LSU got complacent.
“We started with great intensity and then we got this big lead and we kind of backed out and we thought it was going to become really easy and then that actually put us into a dog fight which is very unusual.”
The Tigers eventually won out the dog fight, topping the Hogs in set four 27 to 25 and 15 to 12 in the final set.
LSU had help from freshmen Taylor Bannister who had 22 kills.
Flory pulled the team off the floor in between sets four and five to fire up the team.
“We were not intense,” Flory said. “We were sitting and watching and we had a little chat over there about whose court this was and we had that heart and desire and drive and that was gut check time so this team has that and I’m proud of them their backs were against the wall we did not play clean volleyball but we won the match and that’s all that matters.”
The Tigers will have a chance to clean up their play on the road.
Senior outside hitter Gina Tillis knows LSU will have to bring that same heart and drive with them.
“We need to bring that same fighting mentality probably more because Auburn is a really good team,” Tillis said. “They don’t give up on any plays so we need to come with this mentality this game for Auburn next week.”
Tillis and the Tigers will take on Auburn this Friday.
