LSU freshman Taylor Gross is on track to be the first student at the university to graduate with a dual degree in music and entrepreneurship.
The program has just recently been implemented this fall. Taylor first heard about the program during a meeting with the dean of LSU’s Business College, Dr. Richard White.
“Now entrepreneurship kinda clicked a lightbulb in my head just because, I feel an entrepreneurial bent when it comes to approaching music. So he talked about the fact that they had this entrepreneurship program that can be paired with any other degree program, and he used music as an example,” said Goss.
Dr. Edward Watson, Interim Director of the Stephenson Entrepreneurship Institute, describes why LSU chose a dual degree program instead of a sole entrepreneurship major, “getting students developing their craft, developing their passions in other areas, and then their learning the business and entrepreneurial mindset and skills required to kinda figure out what they wanna do with their passion.”
With so many option for students to choose from, a business degree might not appeal to a larger audience. Dr. Watson shared a testimony from a student looking to partner with the program with a major in International Studies, “’by pairing it with International Studies, I can extend my ideas far beyond any geographical or political borders, affecting people all over the world. The experience gained from this combination of degrees is something that will truly serve me for the rest of my life.’”
“It’s just the perfect opportunity for me because I’m granted so much freedom, and so much challenge, and so much opportunity,” said Goss.
Enrollment in the program is expected to increase as the word spreads about the new asset LSU has to offer its students.
