It did not take the mojo of a night game in Death Valley for LSU to pull off an upset against the No. 10 Auburn Tigers.
Despite struggles on both sides of the ball in the first half, Dave Aranda’s defense dominated in the third and fourth quarters. Auburn was kept out of the endzone the entire second half.
“I think the difference in the football game, the overall team win, was the way our defense came out and shut them out in the second half,” head coach Ed Orgeron said.
Senior wide receiver DJ Chark brought in a 75-yard punt return early in the fourth quarter, which gave LSU the momentum for the rest of the game.
“I feel like that was a big spark, you know,” Chark said. “That was able to put us at the edge.”
The win on Saturday afternoon is the largest comeback victory against a Southeastern Conference opponent in Tiger Stadium since the 1950s.
