“She Stands,” the first self-published book by local resident Stacey Wilson, explores overcoming abusive relationships through the narratives of five women across America.
Wilson found three of the four women who contribute to the book through her blog, “Victorious She Stands,” where Wilson shares stories about how God has helped her through the life. The three women were moved by Wilson’s post, and eventually reached out to her.
Writing the book reconnected Wilson with a high school friend, Kim, who she messaged after deciding to write the book because Wilson knew she had a story to tell. Kim writes about an abusive relationship she had while growing up, and how she turned to drugs for help. Since the release of the novel, Kim has redirected her life and is creating a new, healthier path for herself, Wilson said.
Two of the other contributors write about their experiences with abusive relationships, while one talks about losing a significant other to murder.
Although they’ve faced challenges, the women have found meaning to life through God, and realized that as long as they put their faith in Him everything would be the way it was supposed to be, Wilson said.
At the end of the 66-page book, Wilson talks about how women shouldn’t stay in a negative relationship out of fear of being alone.
“The last three chapters of the book I talk about how it’s okay to be single,” Wilson said. “I’m still single, you don’t have to have somebody in your life to be victorious.”
“She Stands” can be purchased on Amazon.
“Women become victorious through Jesus and through what he created us to be,” Wilson said.
